Brief History

  • A scheme establishment of Government Polytechnic Institute (GPI) Sardar Garhi at Village Rano Garhi, Peshawar was approved by the PDWP on 08/6/2007.
  • Academic activities were started from September, 2011.
  • Total area of the institute is 28 kanal.
  • Total covered area including student’s hostel is 60550 square feet.

 

Introduction

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country. An Engineering Technologist/Technician is a professional trained in certain aspects of development and implementation of a respective area of technology.

Technicians are skilled workers who work with complex systems or perform highly technical mechanical or diagnostic tests. Depending on the field, technicians may work independently or under the direction of a professional Technicians can work indoors or might spend most of their time outside Associate Engineers work as supervisor of handling engineering works and play a role of bridge between engineers/technologist and skilled workforce.

Since 2007, there was only one public sector technical institute (GCT Peshawar) in the entire district Peshawar offering three years post matric diploma program in various disciplines, therefore, in order to cope growing demand of the technicians and skilled workforce in the county as well as persistent demand of the youth of the district Peshawar, an ADP scheme “Establishment of Government Polytechnic Institute, Sradar Garhi Peshawar was approved on land already acquired at village Rano Garhi by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 8th June, 2007.

Both, the non-residential and residential (student’s hostel) buildings were completed in the year 2011 at total cost of RS. 118.00 Million. Regular classes in Civil, Electrical & Electronics Technologies were commenced from September, 2011 (academic session 2011-2012). Government Polytechnic Institute, Sardar Garhi, Peshawar is working under the administrative control of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority Peshawar.

The institute is located in village Rano Garhi near Chamkani interchange (northern by pass) on Budni Road Peshawar. The institute is spread over a land of 28 kanal having a purpose-built building for conducting academic activities and students’ hostel. Total covered area including student’s hostelis 60550 square feet. It consists of administration Block, classrooms, workshops/ laboratories for core subjects, a computer laboratory multi-purpose hall, library, mosque and 100 students hostel to accommodate.
